Realistic ways to start getting healthy in 2021
There are so many tips, tricks, lists, shortcuts and hacks out there telling you how to complete your New Year Resolutions. While it's always good to dream big, sometimes it's just not a practical way to get stuff done. The continuing pandemic will make it especially difficult to learn salsa dancing or go skydiving. Here's a list of things everyone can do starting this month. They may seem small and insignificant, but every little bit can help to get you in the right mind set and started off right for a healthier you in 2021.
1. Make Sure You Like Doing It: So many people join a gym or buy the latest in home gym equipment thinking they're all set. But if you don't actually like doing the exercise then your exercise time will start trailing off. Any activity you enjoy that includes a mix of muscle strengthening and aerobic activity a few times a week is sure to have you on the road to health and wellness if you stick to it.
2. Don't Go All In: If you try to change everything about your diet overnight it may backfire and lead you to giving up quicker. Many people resolve to lose weight, go all in, but get discouraged after not being able to commit to change their lifestyles entirely overnight. Going on a diet doesn’t have to mean total suffering and depravity. Start with some small changes like: switch out your colas for water, cut down on red meats, or try a fruit you've never had before. Making small changes can lead to big time success in the end.
3. Plan Ahead: It may seem like an insignificant thing, but getting your workout gear ready to go the night before is a great motivator. It's so hard pulling away from a nice warm bed on a cold early morning, but not having to rifle through drawers in the dark is a huge win. Set your shoes out, have your water bottle filled and things ready to go.
4. You Need Your 8 Hours: Last, but certainly not least SLEEP! Studies have shown that adequate sleep reduces stress hormones and will help with weight loss and overall health. We all know it, so turn off the computer, put down your work and get to bed.
Some of these changes may be harder than others, but every little bit helps. It you want to start on the path to a new you this new year try your best to accomplish your goals, no matter their size.
